1.0 CE for CEU credit for both nurses (AANAC) and administrators (NCERS/NAB)
As discussed in Part 1 of this topic, the number of lawsuits naming individual nurses and executive directors or administrators is on the rise. The notion that most plaintiffs target corporations or specific facilities because they have the deepest pockets persists, but the list of individual employee defendants is growing.
Nurses and administrators are seen as the guiding managers of the healthcare facility, and the plaintiffs who are suing for negligence are now focusing on those in charge.
In part 2 of this program, we will focus on the best ways to document issues, WHAT NOT to write, how and what to report to families, response to family and patient complaints, and resident and staff supervision.
Objectives:
- Understand the appropriate documentation needed to avoid serious lawsuits
- Articulate what not to write
- Determine what information to collect, the follow-up needed,d and the best ways to report to families
- Determine the importance of post-incident huddles
As before, we encourage people to send in questions ahead of time so that we can answer and or incorporate them into our webinar session. If you would like to send questions before the session, please email them to sschneider@thenih.org.
